Description

Keys and Gates, the first edition of the 6529 Network Museum's first Accession Program, is on public exhibition at Casa NUA's Dominio PubliCC0 6529 gallery from August 20206. Every society is organized by thresholds. Some are tangible: doors, borders, checkpoints, locks, fences. Others are embedded within bureaucracies, technologies, financial systems, and social conventions. Together, they shape the conditions of movement, participation, visibility, and belonging. They determine who may enter, who must wait, who is recognized, and who remains unseen. Keys and Gates brings together photographic works selected through an open accession process for the inaugural photography program of the 6529 Network Museum. Participation in the program meant relinquishing all rights to the photographs and giving them permanently to the public domain under teh Creative Commons Zero license (CC0). Thus, each image functions simultaneously as an individual work and as part of a growing public archive, one that records the lived experience of sovereignty, self-custody, exclusion, mobility, and participation in the twenty-first century. Rather than advancing a singular curatorial thesis, the exhibition assembles a constellation of perspectives on access, control, autonomy, and the right to choose one's own path. Each artist approaches the notion of the key differently: as an object, a gesture, a memory, an identity, a testimonial, an act of resistance, or a possibility waiting to be unlocked. Likewise, every gate reveals the visible and invisible systems that regulate our lives more than just physical barriers. Across these works, thresholds emerge in many forms. They appear in borders and institutions, in architectures of surveillance and permission, in infrastructures of finance and technology, and in the intimate spaces where personal agency is quietly negotiated. Some photographs confront these systems directly; others approach them through metaphor, symbolism, or the subtle traces they leave upon everyday experience. Together, they propose that freedom is rarely encountered as an abstract ideal, but as a series of moments in which access is granted, withheld, challenged, or reclaimed. Presented by Casa NUA at Domínio PúbliCC0, a space dedicated to bringing decentralized art and culture into the public realm, Keys and Gates extends these questions beyond the digital sphere. It invites us to consider every threshold, physical or symbolic, as a site where authority is exercised, negotiated, and, at times, transformed. Thus, the exhibition asks a question that resonates across every image: who holds the key, and what new worlds become possible when more people do? "Acesso e Controle", on public exhibition reaffirms Dominio PubliCC0's radical commitment to unrestricted access to culture and education about art and technology, bringing a new layer to photography diffusion by harnessing the power of web3. This Meme Card celebrates and records on our world computer the first IRL exhibition of 6529 Network Museum works, and is part of Casa NUA's ongoing fundraiser for operating our public access gallery serving thousands of monthly visitors while giving them their first contact with networked art. The soundtrack, just like for our Pebbles exhibition meme card, was composed by Eric Pan for the upcoming Formosa Vinyl Record (stay tuned, it's in the works...!)
